Expressive Acrylic and Ink Painting Workshop - June 20th 2025
Come and join me for a fun 1-day workshop where you will explore the playful processes of painting with inks and acrylics. I will share how they can be used in an expressive and intuitive way and how you can incorporate different mark making tools and exercises to free up your paintings.
I have recently been incorporating more water based paints and love using them when I travel and also when I work outside. Acrylics and inks are both incredibly versatile and have quick drying times which means imagery can be built up easily in one sitting.
During the workshop I will guide you through how to build up transparent layers to create atmospheric, abstract paintings that are expansive and loose. We will also explore how drawing media such as pastels, pens and coloured pencils can be added to provide definition and layers to your pieces.
The workshop will also include tutor demonstrations, time for experimentation and play and a chance for you to develop a small series of 6-8 paintings you can take away with you.
Experience
The workshop will be a chance for you to connect with your creative side in a relaxed and inspiring space. Whether you are an experienced artist or just getting started, you will explore the joy of paint, colour, texture and shape and try new tools and approaches that will allow you to find your own signature style.
In terms of my own teaching experience I hold a full PGCE and have been delivering art workshops for over 15 years. I have been a visiting lecturer at Falmouth University and regularly teach at Tate St Ives and The St Ives School of Painting. I also have a BA arts degree and completed my MA in fine art in 2013

Testimonials
Great set up with amazing views. It was such a privilifdge to be able to lean from Laura in her studio and to make connection with the other artists.
Liked the demonstrations- lots of ideas to think about and try. Think the workshop has helped me to relax and enjoy art making. I liked the whole concept of experimenting and playing - simplified the process for me. Thorough enjoyed and has given me plenty to think about going forward on my art journey.
I just loved the way Laura made it seem so easy and uncomplicated - Iām hoping this will give me the freedom to try to experiment more and to just enjoy making art and being more open and expressive without worrying about the finished product.
The mix of practical work with information about materials and techniques was great. Lots of advice about possible approaches and ways of thinking about work.
