Exploring Oil & Cold Wax - June 19th 2025
Come and join me for a fun and experimental 1-day workshop and learn about the joy that can be had when painting with oil and cold wax. Coldwax is a wonderful medium that adds body, transparent and depth to oil paint and speeds up its drying time.
The workshop will cover basic techniques and processes, and focus on how you can create abstract paintings full of layers, texture and depth.
You will learn:
How to use coldwax to add luminosity, texture and depth to your paintings.
How to work more intuitively and embrace happy accidents.
Which tools and mediums to use, and how to set up your space.
Building up layers of colour and texture.
How to embrace an abstract and experimental way of working.
You'll learn how to develop intuitive paintings while receiving 1:1 feedback. The workshop will also include plenty of tutor demonstrations and time for experimentation and play.
By the end of the day, you will of created a series of 6 -8 paintings on arches oil paper and will have an exciting new way of working that you can develop further independently.
Experience
The workshop will be a chance for you to connect with your creative side in a relaxed and inspiring space. Whether you are an experienced artist or just getting started, you will explore the joy of oil and cold wax and leave with new skills you can further develop.
In terms of my own teaching experience I hold a full PGCE and have been delivering art workshops for over 15 years. ‘I can’t recommend Laura’s cold wax and oil workshop highly enough. It’s a method I’ve been wanting to explore for some time . Her way of explaining the various mixing and layering techniques and her encouragement of intuitive, free and loose mark-making was exactly what I wanted. I’m now working on pieces at home and loving the process
